Scalable, supported lump sum programmes

Scalable, supported lump sum programmes

Lump sum relocation remains one of the most widely adopted policy structures in corporate mobility: a pre-determined budget for the relocating employees to arrange their own services with cost predictability and administrative simplicity.

At MovePlus, every lump sum assignee is assigned a dedicated Relocation Advocate, a single named point of contact throughout the move, while the MOVEPLUS™ platform gives your team service usage tracking, exception control, and reporting to keep the programme accountable.

When a lump sum programme is the right fit

Lump sum policies suit specific populations rather than every move. Common scenarios include:

  • High-volume domestic transfers, where moves follow a predictable pattern and costs can be estimated with confidence.
  • Early-career and new-hire relocations, where budgets are defined and the move is typically a single person or small household.
  • Renters and shorter-distance moves, where there is no property sale to manage and fewer moving parts.

MovePlus supports two lump sum models:

Lump sum

A fixed payment is made to the assignee through payroll, with optional booking through the MOVEPLUS™ platform. This is the simplest model and gives the assignee full control of the funds, whether they book services themselves or ask their Relocation Advocate to arrange them.

Lump sum with expenses option

Funds are disbursed by MovePlus rather than paid out as a single sum, making spending trackable and producing reportable data for your mobility team.

Programme administration

Lump sum programme administration through MOVEPLUS™

Centralised programme dashboard

View the entire lump sum population from the HR dashboard. Policy type, employee status, and programme-level data sit in the HR/Mobility Hub, so every active move is tracked without spreadsheets or manual chasing.

Custom policy configuration and eligibility

Your lump sum policy is configured into the platform, with fixed or variable amounts set by job level, tenure, homeowner or renter status, or destination, giving you a consistent, auditable basis for every payment.

Employee booking through the MOVEPLUS™ platform

Each assignee accesses a personalised Employee Hub with task lists, expense tools, and custom City Guides, and can book their own services where your policy enables it, with every action captured in one place.

A Relocation Advocate on every move

Every assignee is assigned a dedicated Relocation Advocate, a single named contact who oversees the move in the background. Our Advocates bring an average of 8+ years of industry experience to every policy.

Exception and approval workflows

Off-policy requests are captured, routed, and recorded in the platform with a full audit trail, so you see every exception, who approved it, and how it affects overall programme cost at any point in time.

Programme-level reporting

Pull spend, budget, and exception data on demand across 475+ reportable fields, in Excel, PDF, CSV, or scheduled delivery, with charts configured directly in the dashboard for budget reviews and forecasting.

Multi-policy administration

MOVEPLUS™ supports multiple policy types within one programme environment, so lump sum and managed relocation tracks run side by side with distinct workflows, reporting, and employee experiences for each.

Frequently asked questions

A lump sum relocation policy provides the relocating employee with a pre-determined, fixed amount of funds to cover the costs of their move. The employee arranges their own services using those funds. Programme parameters, including whether the amount is fixed or tiered and how exceptions are handled, are defined by the employing organisation. With MovePlus, every lump sum employee is supported by a Relocation Advocate.
With MovePlus, every lump sum employee is assigned a dedicated Relocation Advocate: a single named point of contact they can reach at any time, who oversees the move in the background. Where the policy enables it, the employee books their own services through the MOVEPLUS™ platform, keeping control of their move with expertise and oversight available whenever needed. The level of support is configurable to the client’s policy.
Employers gain cost predictability, administrative simplicity, and straightforward budgeting. Employees gain flexibility and control over how the relocation is managed, with a Relocation Advocate to call on at any time. The model works particularly well for high-volume domestic transfers, early-career employees, and new hires where full-service coordination is not required.
A tiered lump sum structure applies different lump sum amounts to different employee groups, based on criteria such as job level, tenure, homeowner versus renter status, or destination. Tiered structures allow organisations to allocate resources more precisely while maintaining the administrative simplicity of the lump sum model.
